I'm currently living in the lovely Northwest Oregon area, working as a software engineer in Portland. Prior to here, I've also lived in California, Alabama, and Florida. I am originially from Miami and when I'm not enjoying the beauty of Cascadia, I'm basking in the soul that is my hometown. My parents both immigrated there from Havana, Cuba in 1961 after the Cuban Revolution and set to work rebuilding their lives.
Growing up in Florida, it's hard not to have at least some admiration for the ocean. It's been a point in my development to keep my home state in mind as I've learned more about physical oceanography; Florida has many challenges facing her this century. Bob Ballard has been a personal hero of mine, and his work discovering the R.M.S. Titanic fascinated me as a youth, and helped focus my career towards marine science. I love to SCUBA dive when I get the chance.
My interests include music, robots, ocean sciences, reading, writing, and building things. I've played the drums since I was 13 and played with a few groups growing up. Along the way, I added the saxophone and picked up a ton of preferred artists and albums. I love playing soccer (football to my Spaniard cousins) and play in several leagues across Portland. I’m also always looking for pickup games so if you're local, let me know. Beer brewing is a hobby I’ve picked up since being in the PNW. Each consequent batch is an improvement on the last. If you have any tips, shout them out.
In 2012, I took a 4 month long rail trip with friends through Europe. We toured 15 countries with focuses in Spain and Germany. It was a once in a lifetime trip, and I could talk about it for hours if you let me. Consider yourself warned!!
